Instrument path

Harmonium

Demo preview. The lesson paths, fees, and saved progress on this site are not the school's final offer.

An Indian harmonium with the bellows open

A first path on the harmonium. You learn to sit so the bellows can move, to find Sa, and to sing the note names while the hand plays them. The path uses sargam (Sa Re Ga Ma) because that is how a beginner hears the instrument. A song comes only after a straight alankar stays in tune with the bellows.

First lessons. Sung note names, not staff reading.

Instrument film · 0:12A short demo film for this instrument. It is not a teacher on camera. Each lesson below has its own film.

You will learn

  • Move the bellows without a gap in the sound
  • Find Sa and play Re and Ga from it
  • Sing the name while you play
  • Keep a straight alankar even
  • Play a four-note line from class

At home

  • A harmonium
  • Space to sit with the bellows
  • A phone or a laptop for Zoom
