Bansuri

Demo preview. The lesson paths, fees, and saved progress on this site are not the school's final offer.

A bamboo bansuri on teal silk

A first path on the side-blown bamboo flute. You learn how the bansuri sits, how a finger covers a hole without leaking air, and how to hold one note with a quiet breath. Sa Re Ga comes only after that note stays steady. The teacher chooses which holes are Sa for your flute.

Raghu Bansuri teaches Indian classical bansuri at Naad Shala, in Arambol, Goa.

First lessons. A beginner bansuri in any common scale is enough.

Instrument film · 0:12A short demo film for this instrument. It is not a teacher on camera. Each lesson below has its own film.

You will learn

  • Hold the bansuri level, without gripping
  • Cover one hole so the note does not leak
  • Play one steady note on a quiet breath
  • Find Sa, Re, and Ga on your flute
  • Play Sa Re Ga and back without a gasp

At home

  • A bansuri
  • A quiet corner
  • A phone or a laptop for Zoom, set so the teacher can see your hands and the flute
